Internships and Mentorships
Internship Opportunities
Internships with Fee-only Financial Planning Firms
The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) believes in supporting member firms efforts to build successful internship programs and identify the best and brightest students to staff available positions. Internships with Fee-only financial planning firms are a valuable way to gain great real world experience to complement your classroom learning, enhance your resume, and make valuable professional contacts that can serve as a pathway to the ideal job upon graduation.
Interns are valuable assets for Fee-only firms for several reasons. In addition to being a pipeline for hiring, interns fill positions and assist staff with special projects and client service. For employers who are looking for the cream of the crop among college-educated, entry-level employees, an internship program is a great way for them to build a pipeline of talented, young professionals to meet future needs in the Financial Planning profession.
Internship programs offer real world experience working in a Fee-only financial planning firm and provide added perspective on how the profession works. Interns serve as part of the firm’s team and have the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the field.

Mentoring Opportunities
NAPFA is committed to your professional development and the Fee-only financial planning community. The organization believes in providing opportunities to connect those individuals looking to begin a mentoring relationship and those willing to serve as mentors. Mentoring is one way to build your network with those that share a similar mindset and/or career path. It is also a great vehicle for career/professional enhancement, leadership development, and knowledge transfer.
Finding a Mentor or Mentee
The Mentor Engage platform connects both parties interested in a mentoring relationship. This member benefit allows registered participants to search for professionals whose experience and expertise match areas in which they wish to be mentored. Likewise, mentors can search for and identify potential mentees. A successful relationship can be fulfilling and beneficial for all involved, and it doesn't require large amounts of your time.
